Prosecutors today charged three Wahiawa men with attempted second-degree murder stemming from the beating of a 20-year-old man Saturday night on California Avenue.

Fetuli M. Vakameilalo, 21, of 204 Ohai St., Faiwa Sione, 25, of 264 California Ave., and Logovii Talo, 24, of 225 Ohai St. are being held overnight at the main police station cellblock in lieu of $100,000 each for their initial appearance tomorrow at District Court.

The three men are accused of beating Rooney Racoma, 20, on the head with bats, according to police affidavits filed at District Court. Racoma was found unconscious on the roadway fronting 302 California Ave. at 10:32 p.m. and was taken to The Queen's Medical Center, where he remains in critical condition.

The court documents stated that police responded to a report of 20-30 men and women fighting with bats. Police arrived and found a large group dispersing but still yelling and arguing with each other and Racoma and two other men, who tried to help him, lying on the ground.

Witnesses told police Vakameilalo struck Racoma on the head and face with a cricket bat while Talo and Sione continued hitting the victim with bats while he was on the ground, the affidavit stated.
