Portland pounds UH baseball team, 15-8

Portland went out to a 12-0 lead en route to a 15-8 victory over Hawai'i in the Coca-Cola Classic baseball tournament today at George Brett Field in Surprise, Ariz.

Hawai'i is 5-6 overall and finished 1-3 in the tournament. The Rainbows lost to Michigan earlier today, 11-5.

The Pilots pounded UH pitching for 21 hits.

Hawai'i's Vinnie Catricala went 3 for 5 with three RBI, three runs and a home run. Jonathan Hee went 4 for 5 . Brandon Haislet hit a two-run home run.

Josh Slaats (0-1) took the loss for the Rainbows.

Portland scored two in the first inning, three in the second and one in the third for 6-0 lead. The Pilots scored six runs in the fifth for a 12-0 lead.

Hawai'i scored three in the sixth, highlighted by a two-run homer by Haislet. But Portland scored three more runs in the next two innings.
