BYUH tops Hilo in finale

Paul Peterson scored 23 points as Brigham Young-Hawai'i turned back Hawai'i-Hilo, 89-76, last night in a Pacific West Conference men's basketball season finale at Hilo civic.

Lucas Alves added 16 points and nine rebounds, and Jermaine Odjegba had 13 points for the Seasiders (17-7, 12-5).

Rashad Bilal scored 16 points, Sam Wilhoite had 15 and Jay De Maestri added 10 rebounds and eight points for the Vulcans (13-12, 8-9).

BYUH hit 19 of 34 shots to take a 49-35 lead at the half.

Hilo closed to 60-54 with 12:25 to play on Perry Baggett's 3-pointer, but could not get any closer.

UH-HILO 68, BYUH 44: Sheila Azevedo scored 18 points and Ashley Kualii 12 as the Vulcans (9-15, 9-8) beat the Seasiders (5-20, 5-12) in a women's game at Hilo Civic. Richelle Fenenbock scored 18 points and Lei Lolohea added 13 points and 10 rebounds for BYUH.

CHAMINADE 75, NOTRE DAME DE NAMUR 58: Hayden Heiber had 20 points and 10 rebounds, Marko Kolaric added 13 points and 16 rebounds, and Stewart Kussler contributed 18 points and eight rebounds as the Silverswords (20-7, 15-3) beat the Argonauts (10-16, 6-12) in a men's game at Belmont, Calif.

NOTRE DAME DE NAMUR 82, CHAMINADE 60: Corazon Riley scored 22 points as the Argonauts (13-13, 13-5) beat the Silverswords (0-24, 0-17) in a women's game at Belmont, Calif. Simrin Cummins led Chaminade with 25 points and nine rebounds.
