MANILA, Philippines — A strong earthquake deep in the ocean rocked the Bicol region southeast of Manila late Monday, scientists said. There were no immediate reports of injuries or damage.

The U.S. Geological Survey put the preliminary magnitude at 6.9.

It was felt in Legazpi city in Albay province, site of the mestive Mayon volcano, and southern Leyte province.
