Tennis: Federer upset in first round at Dubai

Associated Press

DUBAI, United Arab Emirates — Andy Murray has upset Roger Federer in the first round of the Dubai Championships, handing the top-ranked Swiss his second loss in a row.

Murray rallied to win 6-7 (6), 6-3, 6-4. It was Federer's first match since his loss to Novak Djokovic in the semifinals of the Australian Open in January.

Also in the first round today, Fabrice Santoro upset last year's finalist Mikhail Youzhny 6-3, 6-4.

It was Santoro's third win in seven matches against the 12th-ranked Russian.

Santoro could next face Australian Open champion Novak Djokovic, who faces Marin Cilic on Tuesday at the Aviation Club.

Youzhny, who lost to top-ranked Roger Federer in last year's final, said he was tired from playing a lot this season and didn't have enough time to train.

"I'm in bad shape," Youzhny said. "Mistakes, then nerves, and then more mistakes."
