Poetry Out Loud contest coming to Tenney Theatre

Advertiser Staff

The third annual Poetry Out Loud: National Recitation Contest is bringing high school students from around the state for its Sunday event at Tenney Theatre on the grounds of St. Andrew's Cathedral.

Some semifinals will be 10 a.m. to 1 p.m., with finals 2 to 5 p.m.

Poetry Out Loud is a free national arts education program that encourages the study of great poetry by offering educational materials and a dynamic recitation competition.

At Tenney Theatre, contestants will recite works they selected from an anthology of more than 500 classic and contemporary poems. The state champion of the Poetry Out Loud Hawaii final will receive an all-expenses-paid trip (with a chaperone) to compete in the National Finals in Washington, D.C., on April 28-29.
