Motorcyclist dies on Big Island

Advertiser Staff

HILO, Hawai'i — A 47-year-old Hilo man died over the weekend from injuries he suffered in a motorcycle crash at the intersection of Railroad Avenue and Lama Street in Hilo late Saturday.

Clayton K. Fukuhara was headed east on Lama Street shortly before 11:29 p.m. when he failed to stop at the stop sign and crashed in a driveway of a home across the intersection.

Fukuhara was pronounced dead at 2 a.m. Sunday at Hilo Medical Center. It is not yet known if speed or alcohol were factors in the crash, police said. Fukuhara was not wearing a helmet.

Big Island police have ordered an autopsy to determine the exact cause of death. Fukuhara's death is the eighth traffic fatality on the Big Island so far this year compared with eight at this time last year.
