Ala Wai boat harbor to get $4.2 million renovation

Advertiser Staff

The state has released $4.2 million for improvement projects at Ala Wai Small Boat Harbor, including dock replacements and infrastructure upgrades.

A majority of the money — about $3.5 million — will be used to replace docks B, C and D. More than 35 years old, the docks have exceeded their life span and 80 of the 172 slips are currently out of service due to safety concerns.

About $100,000 will go toward the replacement of the harbor's transient docks at the small boat harbor. About $390,000 will be spent on redesigning Row 700 docks and Row 500 docks.

Finally, $200,000 will be spent to design upgrades to the harbor's water, sewer and electrical infrastructure.

These projects come after the recent $1.65 million replacement of dock F.
