Ewa Beach man gets 20 years for manslaughter

Advertiser Staff

An 'Ewa Beach man was sentenced today to 20 years in prison for smothering his wife to death last Sept. 10 during a domestic dispute.

Michael Schuette, who pleaded guilty to manslaughter "with extreme mental or emotional disturbance" on Dec. 7, was sentenced by Circuit Judge Richard Pollack. As part of the plea agreement, prosecutors said Schuette agreed to state that he intentionally and knowingly killed his wife.

The Hawai'i Paroling Authority will set Schuette's minimum sentence and prosecutors will to argue that he serve the maximum sentence.

During an argument with his wife, Victoria Schuette fell face-first in their backyard and her husband laid on top of her until she asphyxiated, prosecutors said.
