KAHO'OLAWE
Navy explosives disposal work happens this week

Advertiser Staff

A Navy explosive ordnance disposal team will be on Kaho'olawe this week to dispose of newly discovered ordnance at several locations on the island.

The operation will take place between 7 a.m. and 4:30 p.m. daily from tomorrow through Friday, according to the Kaho'olawe Island Reserve Commission, which authorized the mission. The commission also has requested restricted airspace over the Kaho'olawe Reserve during ordnance operations.

All personnel on Kaho'olawe not involved with the explosives demolition will be directed to remain in designated safe areas until the demolition is complete.

Commission staff will serve as guides for the Navy team, advising them of significant natural, cultural and historic areas, the agency said.
