The Teen Alert Program at the Domestic Violence Center (formerly the Domestic Violence Clearinghouse & Legal Hotline) is throwing its first club event aimed at raising awareness about teen dating violence.

The event, titled "Love and Courage Party," will be open to high school students interested in having fun in a safe environment while learning about teen dating violence.

According to information provided by the Domestic Violence Center, one in five teenagers each year is affected by dating violence; and by the time they are seniors in high school, one out of two Hawai'i teenagers will know someone who has been hit, kicked, slapped or punched by the person they are dating.

Conscious Roots, a reggae band out of Pearl City High School will headline the event, with OC16's Kutmaster Spaz holding things down on the turntables.

The Love and Courage Party will be held March 16 at the O Lounge at 5 p.m. Admission to the event is $5 at the door with a current and valid school ID.
