More time sought for Kuilima Resort permit

Advertiser Staff

Kuilima Resort Co., which is the developer for land at Turtle Bay, has requested a time extension to submit additional information for an infrastructure permit that it is seeking, according to the city.

The permit is necessary to proceed with development there.

The six-month extension — the second that Kuilima has applied for — hasn't been approved, but the routine procedure is likely to be granted, said Bill Brennan, city spokesman.

The 880-acre property that includes Turtle Bay Resort is under threat of foreclosure, and Gov. Linda Lingle has proposed to purchase the property to preserve the open space there.

Under an agreement with the city and the state, the owners of the property can build up to five hotels there and four public parks.
