Brigham Young-Hawai'i's Lucas Alves has been named Pacific West Conference men's basketball Player of the Week for the fourth time this season.

Alves, a sophomore from Brazil, averaged 21.5 points and 8.5 rebounds in two games against Hawai'i-Hilo.

The Seasiders, who finished the regular season 18-7, are ranked sixth in this week's NCAA II West Regional poll. Chaminade (20-7) is ranked No. 4.

The regional poll determines which teams will receive bids to the NCAA II tournament. The top eight teams in the final regional poll, which will be released as part of the NCAA II tournament show on Sunday, will receive tournament bids.

PEPPERDINE BLITZES UH

Pepperdine, ranked 27th in the nation, beat the University of Hawai'i women's team, 7-0, yesterday at the UH Tennis Complex.

The Rainbow Wahine fell to 0-8, with six losses coming against ranked teams.

In other news, UH sophomore Sophie Kobuch is ranked 81st in singles by the Intercollegiate Tennis Association this week. The last Rainbow Wahine to be ranked was Lauren Fitzgerald with a No. 94 singles ranking on Jan. 11, 2005.

Kobuch, from Tournefeuille, France, beat then-No. 59 Anastasia Surkova, from 26th-ranked Brigham Young, in straight sets and Taylor Ormond, of then-No. 13 Baylor, in January. Kobuch also upset then-No. 16 Katie Rybakova of Florida State in three sets.
