Skating: Ohno bounces back to win 500-meter gold

SEOUL, South Korea — Apolo Anton Ohno won the 500 meters of the World Short Track Speedskating Championships today, a day after a disappointing start to the event.

The two-time Olympic champion finished in 42.568 to claim gold. He was disqualified from the 1,500 meters final yesterday.

In the 500, he finished ahead of Canada's Charles Hamelin, who skated in 42.625.

Song Kyung-taek of South Korea, who won gold in the 1,500 meters, was third with a time of 42.632. Simon Jeff of the United States completed the final field with 42.906.

In the women's 500 meter final, China's Wang Meng picked up her second gold in two days with a time of 43.888.

She beat home compatriot Liu Qiuhong, who had 43.973. Kalyna Roberge of Canada took the bronze with 44.018. Zhou Yang, the third Chinese representative in the final, finished fourth.
