City opens new comfort station at Kaaawa Beach Park

Advertiser Staff

The city has opened new comfort station at Ka'a'awa Beach Park.

The new facility features clean and modern toilets, potable water, new walkways, landscaping and an irrigation system.

The new comfort station replaced an older facility that had deteriorated over many years.

The park is very popular with Windward families and other beach-goers, and the project was a priority for the community.

"We're very pleased to have this important new facility open, and we invite everyone to enjoy this beautiful Windward beach park," said Les Chang, city parks director.

Construction was substantially completed in April of 2007, but final acceptance was delayed because a septic tank had to be relocated. The state Department of Health has approved the relocated tank, and the facility is now open.

The cost of construction was approximately $600,000. The city's construction contractor was T. Iida Contracting Ltd.
