Fire destroys airport WikiWiki shuttle bus

A single-compartment WikiWiki shuttle bus was destroyed by fire tonight at Honolulu International Airport.

Department of Transportation spokesman Scott Ishikawa said the shuttle bus was totally destroyed and four people aboard escaped without injury. The fire near Baggage Claim F was reported at 9:10 p.m., said Ishikawa.

The electrical shuttle bus driver saw smoke coming from the rear-engine area, said Ishikawa, Officials will investigate the cause of the fire tomorrow.

State Air Rescue firefighters at the airport responded and were assisted by a Honolulu Fire Department company from the Mokulele station in extinguishing the fire, which was out at 9:34 p.m., said HFD spokesman Capt. Terry Seelig.
