"Vincent," a one-man, two-act play written by Leonard Nimoy about the renowned artist Vincent Van Gogh, will be staged at 7:30 p.m. April 3-5 at the Ulua Theatre in Volcano, on the Big Island.

The Ulua is actor Jason Scott Lee's theater, located at his home.

It will star Jim Jarrett, an actor, teacher and former Big Island resident, via his Jarrett Productions, as a benefit for the Ulua Theatre.

The play made its debut in 1997 at the Aloha Theatre on Hawai'i island and since has toured extensively throughout the world.

"Mr. Nimoy's play is compelling, humorous, inspiring and most of all, educational," said Jarrett in a statement. "Those who attend will never be able to look at Vincent or his work the same way again. Through this play we discover Vincent was much more than a madman artist — he was a man who, after years of wandering and searching his soul, discovered his dream, his God-given purpose for being on this planet and then spent the next 10 years of his life trying to do justice to this gift. That's noble and rare. And, inspiring."

Tickets: $20, with proceeds going to the Ulua. Advance sales are through CD Wizard and at the Volcano Store.
