Chaminade, BYUH earn berths

By Michael Tsai
Advertiser Staff Writer

The Pacific West Conference will once again have a pair of representatives in the NCAA Division II Men's Basketball Championship tournament as conference champ Chaminade and local rival Brigham Young-Hawai'i join the field of eight in the West Regional.

BYUH and Grand Canyon earned berths last year.

No. 3 seed Chaminade (20-7) faces No. 6 Humboldt State (20-8) Friday in Anchorage, Alaska.

The Silverswords beat the Lumberjacks, 77-68, in their previous meeting in December.

Also Friday, No. 7 seed BYUH will square off with No. 2 Cal State San Bernardino (22-7). The two teams played in the opening round of last year's tournament under identical seeds, with the Coyotes winning, 71-68. The Coyotes went on to win the West Regional.
