Hilo splits softball twinbill

Brittany Dock hit a two-run double and Tessa Truong and Paige Kurosawa had RBI singles to lift Hawai'i-Hilo to a 4-2 victory over Dixie State (Utah) in the first game of a Pacific West Conference doubleheader at UHH softball field in Hilo.

Dixie State won the second game, 7-1.

UH-Hilo is 2-2 overall and 1-1 in the PacWest. Dixie State is 10-9 and 1-1.

In the first game, Dixie State loaded the bases with two outs in the seventh inning, but UHH's Amanda May struck out Brittany Fowler to end the game.

May spaced nine hits, striking out three and walking three to earn the victory.

In the second game, Haley Schumers earned the victory, allowing four hits and striking out four and walking three. She also went 2 for 4 and hit a solo homer in the seventh inning.

CU SPLITS TWO WITH NOTRE DAME DE NAMUR

Carolyn Fisher singled in Brandi Sasaki with two outs in the bottom of the seventh inning to lift Chaminade to a 3-2 comeback victory over Notre Dame de Namur (Calif.) in the first game of a doubleheader at Central O'ahu Regional Park.

Notre Dame de Namur won (9-12) the second game, 2-0, on a two-run homer by Lindsay Crist in the first inning.

In the seventh, Kristine Mihara doubled and scored on Sasaki's double to tie the game at 2. Fisher hit the game-winner to right field off Laurel Carstensen.

Chelsi Walls earned the victory for Chaminade (4-9), allowing nine hits, while striking out five and walking four.

In the second game, Notre Dame de Namur's Ciera Keeney pitched a five-hitter, striking out four and walking three.
