At last, Roselani Ice Cream's Aloha Cherry Truffle, the flavor first released last October to benefit breast cancer education, has made it way to retail stores. It was in desserts in restaurants around Maui during Breast Cancer Month in October, but problems with packaging caused a delay in its release to the wider market. A portion of the proceeds will benefit Maui Memorial Medical Center Foundation's fund to promote annual breast screening.

The carton design was donated by Sadene Ota of Wailuku's Sae Design, and the flavor was invented for Valentine's Day more than a year ago by Roselani's ice cream maker Cathy Nobriga Kim.

BAY AREA TREATS

CHEFS HOST 'SAN FRANCISCO SIZZLE' FUNDRAISER

Chef Charles Phan, owner and executive chef of The Slanted Door in San Francisco, will join perennial host chef Sam Choy at the 15th annual Gourmet Affair "San Francisco Sizzle" fundraiser for Big Brothers Big Sisters of Honolulu April 4, at the Hilton Hawaiian Village. Phan's contemporary Vietnamese restaurant is in the restored Ferry Building in San Francisco. He's been profiled in major media and lauded by all the critics, but remains more interested in ferreting out new ingredients on frequent visits to Vietnam and finding new farmers to patronize around the Bay Area than in being lionized. More than a dozen members of his family work with him in the chic but casual eatery. Tickets: $240 per person; 521-3811, ext. 229.
