Commedia dell'Arte expert to offer UH events

The University of Hawai'i-Manoa will present two workshops and a lecture on the Italian theatrical style, Commedia dell'Arte in late March and early April.

Antonio Fava, a commedia master, will teach the use and meanings of masks in the classic stage form and introduce character types such as Old People, Lovers, Zanni and Captains in his presentations, 4 to 8:30 p.m. March 30 (Part 1) and 9 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. April 5 (Part 2) at the Earle Ernst Lab Theatre.

The actor- director-author-mask maker-librettist-musician-playwright is founder of the Scuola Internazionale dell Attopre Comico. His seminal book, "The Comic Mask in Commedia dell'Arte," has just been published by Northwestern University Press.

The workshop cost is $40 per session general, $25 for students, or $85 and $50 for both sessions.
