Time Warner Telecom changing name

Advertiser Staff and News Services

Voice and data services provider Time Warner Telecom Inc. said yesterday it will change its name to tw telecom, effective July 1.

The company, based in Littleton, Colo., has been operating under a name licensing deal with Time Warner Inc. that will expire June 30. The name change has been expected.

Time Warner Telecom operates in Hawai'i out of 2669 Kilihau St. and has a presence on Kaua'i, Maui and the Big Island.

"The time is right to focus our brand around the tw telecom name and vision, a set of values and a brand promise that we have built over the past decade," said Cliff Miyake, vice president and general manager of the Ho-nolulu office.

"All too often there has been confusion between our company and Oceanic Time Warner," Miyake said.

Oceanic Time Warner is the Hawai'i affiliate of Time Warner Cable.

"Time Warner Telecom originated from Time Warner Cable but the two are now completely different and separate entities," Miyake said.

Shares of Time Warner Telecom yesterday fell 10 cents to close at $15.76.
