The Kula Forest Reserve and Polipoli Springs State Park have reopened for public recreation after being closed because of storm damage.

Trees felled during a December storm have been cleared from the forest access road, Polipoli and the most of the Na Ala Hele trail system, according to the Department of Land and Natural Resources.

However, portions of the Mamane/Upper Waiohuli and Upper Waiakoa Trails, the Lower Waiohuli Trail and Mamane Trail remain closed until hazardous conditions can be removed. Bicycles are limited to Skyline Trail, Waipoli Road and the Waiakoa Loop Trail.

With the opening of the Forest Reserve and Hunting Unit C, game mammal hunting has resumed, with hunting of feral pigs on weekends and feral goats daily. Daily archery pig hunting in Unit E also has resumed.

DLNR advises visitors to stay on established roads and open trails and to wear brightly colored clothing because it is a hunting area. Four-wheel-drive vehicles only are recommended for entering the forested area, since occasional rains continue to create muddy and slick road conditions.
