Hawai'i-Hilo's Sheila Azevedo and Hawai'i Pacific's Ashley Jenkins have been named to the All-Pacific West Conference women's basketball first team.

Azevedo, a junior forward from Hilo, averaged 13.9 points and 7.0 rebounds to earn all-conference honors for the second consecutive year.

Jenkins, a senior point guard from Ft. Washington, Md., led the PacWest in scoring with an 18.1 average and added 6.3 assists per game.

Grand Canyon guard Rosalyn Nelson was named Player of the Year. Also on the first team are Grand Canyon guard Samantha Murphy and forward Ashley Hardin, Dixie State forward Jessica Carver and Notre Dame de Namur forward Tanaia Keyes.

Hardin was selected Newcomer of the Year and Murphy the Freshman of the Year. Trent May was voted Coach of the Year after guiding Grand Canyon to the PacWest championship.

Earning second-team honors from Hawai'i schools were Agnes Tuilevuka (Brigham Young-Hawai'i), Nesha Ann Kimitete (Hilo), Simrin Herrington (Chaminade) and Richelle Fenenbock (BYUH). Hilo's Ashley Kualii and Jessica Hanato were named honorable mention.

MEN'S BASKETBALL



KOLARIC, ALVES HONORED

Chaminade's Marko Kolaric and Brigham Young-Hawai'i's Lucas Alves have been named to the Daktronics All-West Region Division II men's basketball team.

Kolaric, a senior forward/center from Novi Sad, Serbia, averaged 12.6 points and 9.7 rebounds.

Alves, a sophomore forward/center from Casa Branca, Brazil, led the Pacific West Conference in scoring with a 20.5 average and added 8.5 rebounds per game.

Chaminade and BYUH will compete in the West Region tournament, starting tomorrow in Anchorage, Alaska.


SOFTBALL

UH TOPS MAINE, 9-0

Melissa Gonzalez and Clare Warwick each had four hits, and Courtney Baughman pitched a two-hitter as 16th-ranked Hawai'i beat Maine, 9-0, last night on the opening day of the Chevron Spring Fling Tournament at Rainbow Wahine Softball Stadium.

Kate Robinson had three hits, including a two-run homer, and Brandi Peiler hit a solo shot for the Rainbow Wahine (18-6), who amassed 19 hits but stranded 13 runners.

Maine fell to 0-19.

In other games, North Carolina beat Texas, 2-1, and Texas Tech topped Maine, 6-1.
