Track: Florida State's Dix scratched from 200 at NCAAs

FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. — Florida State sprint star Walter Dix was scratched from the 200 meters today at the NCAA Indoor track and field championships.

School spokesman Michael Smoose said Dix had strep throat and didn't make the trip. He had been scheduled to run a preliminary heat Friday night in the 200, an event he won each of the last two years.

Dix also qualified in the 1,600 relay.

Florida State has won two straight team national championships in outdoor track and field, but the Seminoles have never won the indoor title. They were ranked No. 1 by the U.S. Track and Field and Cross Country Coaches Association this week.

The meet began Friday morning with the heptathlon. Oregon's Ashton Eaton was the leader through two events — the 60 and the long jump.
