BYUH to meet Chaminade in NCAA West Region semis

The Brigham Young-Hawai'i men's basketball team will meet Chaminade in tomorrow's semifinals of the NCAA Division II West Region Championship after both teams won their first-round matches today in Anchorage, Alaska.

Seventh-seeded Brigham Young-Hawai'i upset second-seeded Cal State San Bernardino, 67-63, behind Lucas Alves' 16 points and 10 rebounds.

Jermaine Odjegba had 16 points and Paul Peterson added 12 points for the Seasiders (19-7). Corey Nielson had eight assists in the win.

Marion Pierce scored 13 points and Lance Ortiz had 11 for Cal State San Bernardino (22-8).

Stewart Kussler scored 17 points and grabbed 15 rebounds to help third-seeded Chaminade defeat sixth-seeded Humboldt State, 68-60.

Marko Kolaric scored 15 points and grabbed 12 rebounds for the Silverswords (21-7) and Hayden Heiber had 12 points and eight assists.

Devin Peal had 27 points for Humboldt State (20-9).

It is the first time the Silverswords have advanced to the semifinals. Both teams are scheduled meet at 3 p.m. HST. Chaminade won all three meetings against BYUH this season.

The region final is scheduled for Monday.
