Art on the Block free fest to be April 19

A free Art on the Block celebration will be 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. April 19 on the Fasi Civic Center grounds surrounding the Skygate sculpture.

"American Idol" third-place finisher Jasmine Trias and singer Kristian Lei headline this all-day event.

There will be five main attractions; cultural exhibits, art tents, food tents, a demonstration tent, and a performing arts stage and will highlight many of the islands' ethnic groups, sponsored by the Commission on Culture and the Arts.

Also performing: Kenny Endo from the Taiko Center of the Pacific, a Chinese Dragon Dance performed by Gee Yung International Martial Arts Dragon and Lion Dance Association, traditional Hawaiian dance and chanting, Korean drumming

and dancing, and Uncle Mel and the Keiki Palaka Band, among others.

Ethnic food will be for sale, and local artists will exhibit. The demonstration tent will host Japanese mochi-pounding and more.
