Kauai land trust grows

Advertiser Staff

A group of Kaua'i landowners recently donated a 17,000-square-foot parcel of beachfront land on the island's North Shore to the Kaua'i Public Land Trust.

The popular fishing spot, just west of Wainiha Bay, will be permanently preserved for public use, the trust said in a news release announcing the gift.

The Canela Group is a hui of individuals who own other land in the area and wanted to make this donation anonymously, said Jennifer Luck, Kaua'i Public Land Trust executive director.

"The Canela Group's generous donation will ensure that another part of this beautiful island will remain undeveloped and available for public access and use in perpetuity," Luck said. "As a nonprofit land preservation organization, we rely on the willingness of landowners to either sell or donate their land to us. The Canela Group is a committed group of individuals who understand the necessity and importance of conserving open space on Kaua'i."

Kaua'i Public Land Trust is a local, independent, nonprofit organization dedicated to preserving exceptional Kaua'i land for the public benefit.
