Smallish surf expected today, bigger stuff on the way

Advertiser Staff

Surf along the north- and west-facing shores of Oahu is expected to be as small today as it has been all week, the National Weather Service said.

But a new northwest swell is headed this way and could produce advisory level surf along both shorelines by Sunday, forecasters said.

Wave faces are expected to reach 3 to 5 feet along north-facing shores today.

West-facing shores will likely see surf of 1 to 3 feet.

South-facing shores can expect surf of 2 to 4 feet, while surf along east-facing shores will be in the range of 4 to 6 feet, according to the forecast.

A new northwest swell will be building on Sunday, likely reaching advisory levels along north- and west-facing shores from Sunday through Tuesday. Breezy trade winds will bring an increase in short period surf from the east through early next week. Additionally, there will be a series of small south swells through Thursday.
