ESPN2 steps in to televise SEC championship game

Associated Press

ATLANTA — ESPN2 will replace CBS in televising the championship game of the Southeastern Conference tournament, which was forced to change its schedule after a tornado damaged the Georgia Dome.

With three games today — one quarterfinal and two semifinals — the title game tomorrow was bumped from 1 p.m. to 3:30 p.m., (9:30 a.m. Hawai'i time) allowing the finalists as much rest as possible.

CBS was scheduled to televise the SEC game but had to back out from the later time, when it will be showing the championship of the Big Ten tournament.

So ESPN2 stepped in, though CBS will still produce the game and broadcast it on affiliates in the home markets of the two finalists.
