At Chabad, Purim goes Mexican

Chabad of Hawai'i is taking a spicy look at Purim, the festival based on the story of Esther, with a Mexican fiesta at 6 p.m. March 20.

Its "Mexican Purim" includes a Mexican buffet, plus a masquerade contest and entertainment. For children, there will be a pinata and a megillah reading. The orthodox Jewish group meets on the second floor of the Ala Moana Hotel.

Cost is $20 ($10 for ages 2-12).

ABERCROMBIE TO SPEAK ON PANEL

The Interfaith Alliance Hawai'i will present "Religion and Politics: Polite Conversations," a morning panel with Puanani Burgess, U.S. Rep. Neil Abercrombie and others at 10 a.m. to noon April 19 at Central Union Church.

The event will be moderated by the Rev. Dr. John Heidel.

ECUMENICAL TOUR TO VISIT 3 CHURCHES

The Ecumenical/Interfaith Commission of the Roman Catholic Diocese of Honolulu is hosting an Ecumenical Study Tour, with visits to three churches for their Sunday liturgy:

  • Sts. Constantine & Helen Greek Orthodox Church on March 30.

  • Holy Theotokos Russian Orthodox Church on April 6.

  • St. Mark Coptic Church on April 13.

    The study tour will be led by Peter Steiger of Chaminade University. Attendees will gather for the first visit at 9:15 a.m. March 30 at the Co-Cathedral of St. Theresa. The group is limited to 15 participants.

    CHURCH HOSTS FREE EASTER MUSICAL

    King's Cathedral will present "His Hands," an Easter musical, 7 p.m. March 21-23 at the church, 5740 Kalaniana'ole Highway in the Niu Valley Center.

    The performance is free.
