Road projects under way around Oahu

The following is a look at road projects taking place around Oahu this week. The State Department of Transportation is in charge of the work and scheduling.

Lane closure schedules may change at any time without further notice.

All projects are weather-permitting.

H-1

KAPOLEI TO KUNIA

Single lane closures on the H-1 Freeway in the eastbound direction between the Makakilo and Kunia Interchanges through Thursday from 8:30 a.m. to 3 p.m., for lane striping.

WAIKELE TO WAIPAHU (Night Work)

Two rightmost lanes in the westbound direction will be closed from the H-1/H-2 separation to the Paiwa Street on-ramp tonight through Friday morning from 10 p.m. to 4:30 a.m.

During these hours, the Waikele/Waipahu off-ramp (Exit 7) at Paiwa Street will also be closed. Westbound motorists are advised to use the earlier Waipahu off-ramp (Exit 8B) and surface streets such as Kamehameha Highway, Farrington Highway or Waipahu Street as alternate routes.

WESTBOUND LIKELIKE HIGHWAY RAMPS, TWO LANES CLOSED WEDNESDAY NIGHT (Night Work)

Two rightmost lanes will be closed in the westbound direction between Houghtailing Street and Richard Lane on Wednesday night through Thursday morning, from 9 p.m. to 4 a.m., for bridge repairs, lane striping and lane marker installations.

During this time, the westbound H-1 off-ramp to Likelike Highway (Exit 20A) and the Likelike Highway on-ramp to the H-1 will be closed at the Kalihi Interchange.

Likelike Highway-bound motorists are advised to use the previous Houghtailing Street off-ramp (Exit 20B) and such surface streets as Waiakamilo Road and School Street.

Motorists seeking to access the H-201 Moanalua Freeway are advised to use School Street as an alternate route to the next available on-ramp at Middle Street. Motorists wishing to access the H-1 Freeway Airport Viaduct are advised to proceed south on Middle Street to the H-1 on-ramp near the Middle Street/Kamehameha Highway intersection.

FARRINGTON HIGHWAY

WAIALUA, NANAKULI TO MAKAHA

Single lane closures on Farrington Highway in both directions through Thursday from 8:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the following locations:

  • From Nanakuli to Makaha between Haleakala Avenue and Lawaia Street for various contractor permit projects including electrical pole replacements and installations of watermains, communications lines and manholes.

  • In Waialua, from Kaena Point to Kaukonahua Road, for lane striping and marker installations.

    KALANIANAOLE HIGHWAY

    NEAR CASTLE JUNCTION

    Right-lane closure on Kalanianaole Highway in the Kailua-bound direction between Castle Junction and Kapaa Quarry Road through Thursday from 6 a.m. to 2:30 p.m., or erosion control work.

    Work and lane closures are scheduled at this site on weekdays through May 2008. Project contractor Prometheus Construction will be anchoring mesh safety netting to the adjacent hillside to stabilize the slope.

    NEAR KALANI HIGH SCHOOL

    Right lane closure in the eastbound direction from Waieli Street to Analii Street on Monday through Tuesday from 8:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. for roadside tree-trimming work.

    KAMEHAMEHA HIGHWAY

    NEAR PEARL HARBOR

    Single lane closures on Kamehameha Highway in both directions from McGrew Loop to Center Drive through Thursday from 8:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. for lane striping, marker installations and guardrail repairs.

    MILILANI TO WHEELER AAF

    Southbound traffic on Kamehameha Highway will be contraflowed using the northbound lanes between Lehua Road and Waikalani Drive on Monday through Thursday from 8:30 a.m. through 3:00 p.m.

    24-hour lane closures will also be in effect, seven-days-a-week at the following locations:

  • Right lane closure in the northbound direction between Lehua Road and Kahelu Avenue.

  • Left and right lane closures in the southbound direction between Santos Dumont Avenue and Waihau Street.

    Portable concrete barriers will be closing these lane segments for shoulder widening and curb construction.

    LIKELIKE HIGHWAY

    UPPER KALIHI AREA

    Right lane closure on Likelike Highway in the Honolulu-bound direction between the Wilson Tunnel and Valley View Drive through Thursday from 8:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. for roadside tree-trimming.

    ALA MOANA BOULEVARD

    DOWNTOWN TO ALA MOANA (Night Work)

    Multiple lane closures in both directions from Fort Street to Piikoi Street through Thursday morning, from 8 p.m. to 5 a.m. for the installation of vehicle detectors, manhole covers and pavement striping.

    FORT WEAVER ROAD

    NEAR AAWA DRIVE

    Single lane closures on Fort Weaver Road in both directions between Aawa Drive and Laulaunui Street through Thursday at the following locations and times.

  • Intermittent single lane closures in the southbound direction between Laulaunui Street and the Honouliuli Stream Bridge from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. for traffic signal conduit and irrigation line installations.

  • Intermittent right lane closure in the northbound direction from Aawa Drive to the Honouliuli Stream Bridge from 9 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. for drainage system construction.

    PUULOA ROAD

    MAPUNAPUNA AREA

    Various lane closures on Puuloa Road between Kamehameha Highway and Salt Lake Boulevard through Thursday from 8:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the following locations:

  • Shoulder lanes in both directions closed. Roadside parking will not be permitted.

  • Modified traffic pattern is in effect on Mokumoa Street between Puuloa Road and Mapunapuna Street for drainage work. No large vehicles are allowed through this area. One lane of travel in each direction is available for cars.

    AOLELE STREET

    NEAR HONOLULU INTERNATIONAL AIRPORT

    Various single lane closures at the intersection of Aolele Street and Paiea Street near the Honolulu International Airport early Thursday morning from 12:30 a.m. to 6:30 a.m., for lane striping.
