March 20 is the deadline to register for a free workshop on conservation and restoration of private lands.

The "Landowner Assistance: Environmental Conservation and Restoration" workshop will be held from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. April 3 in the Alexa Higashi Meeting Room at the Maui Arts and Cultural Center. It is sponsored by the Department of Land and Natural Resources, the U.S. Department of Agriculture's Natural Resources Conservation Service, and the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service.

Topics include how to restore private land to native forest, how to improve native wildlife habitat on private land, and how to address problems with invasive species.

Also participating will be staff from the University of Hawai'i's Cooperative Extension Service and the Maui Invasive Species Committee.

A separate workshop on conservation easements and land acquisitions will be held at a later date.

For more information and to register, contact Charmian Dang via e-mail at Charmian.C.Dang@hawaii.gov or by call 587-4155.
