HONOLULU
'Art on the Block' marks commission's 40th year

Advertiser Staff

The city will celebrate the 40th anniversary of the Commission on Culture and the Arts in April with a first-ever "Art on the Block" event.

The festivities will be held April 19, from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m., on the Fasi Civic Center grounds. The event is open to the public and will feature entertainment, cultural exhibits, art tents, food and demonstrations.

Admission is free.

"Art on the Block will showcase the artistic talents and cultural diversity that help make our Honolulu a special place to live, work and raise families," said Mayor Mufi Hannemann, in a news release.

The Commission on Culture and the Arts assists the city in highlighting the artistic and cultural heritage of its residents, and recommends acquisitions for the Art in City Buildings programs. That collection now has some 900 pieces.
