Advertiser Staff

That surfboard auction last week at Compadres Bar & Grill raised more than $18,000 for the Outrigger Duke Kahanamoku Foundation, according to event organizers Jim Fulton and Lisa Josephsohn. The foundation encourages athletes and scholars whose endeavors will contribute to the growth and development of athletics in Hawai'i.

The auction featured 11 classic boards, auctioned off by surfer-auctioneer Joe Teipel, and attracted a mixed bag of community notables, including surfing legends Randy Rarick and Rabbit Kekai, entertainer Jeff Apaka, artist Lynn Cook, prosecutor Peter Carlisle, surfing weather anchor Guy Hagi, event chair Tiare Finney, ODKF head Patrick Dugan, stevedoring executive Tim Guard and columnist Eddie Sherman.
