Man, 44, dies following Date Street motorcycle crash

Advertiser Staff

A 44-year-old man was fatally injured last night when the motorcycle he was riding crashed into a parked car near the intersection of Date and La'au streets in the Mo'ili'ili area.

Police vehicular homicide investigators said the motorcyclist was speeding west-bound on Date Street when he attempted to pass a car, also headed west, and clipped the right rear corner of the car about 8:40 p.m.

The motorcycle operator then lost control of the 2006 Kawasaki and slammed into a parked vehicle. The motorcycle rider was taken in critical condition to The Queen's Medical Center and later died there, police said.

They said the motorcyclist was not wearing a helmet and that speed may have played a part in the crash. It was not known if the crash involved the consumption of alcohol.
