Lingle to meet with advisory group for Turtle Bay plan

Associated Press

HONOLULU — Gov. Linda Lingle is planning a meeting with the advisory group coming up with strategies for the state to acquire Turtle Bay Resort, a day after she met with the resort's owners for the first time.

Officials describe her first meeting with resort owner Oaktree Capital Management LP on Tuesday as positive. They say discussion included the governor's vision for the 880-acre North Shore property and market conditions.

Oaktree managing director John Brady says the company is willing to work with the state toward a viable solution.

Lingle says she wants to purchase the resort to protect the character of one of O'ahu's last rural coastlines.

Plans for up to 3,500 hotel and condo units on the site would be scrapped, but the current resort and golf course would continue to operate.
