Fire under control on Kamehame Ridge

Advertiser Staff

A brush fire that came about 100 feet from a house on Kamehame Ridge in East Oahu this morning has been brought under control.

About 25 firefighters and four engines responded to the fire at Kamehame Drive and Waihili Place just after 6:30 a.m. and had the blaze under control by 7:15 a.m.

The fire burned less than a football-field-size patch of land, according to HFD spokesperson Capt. Terry Seelig.

The source of the fire appears to have been a malfunctioning transformer, Seelig said.

About 400 customers in the area had lost power, but all were restored by 9:36 a.m., said Darren Pai of Hawaiian Electric Co.
