University of Hawaii sophomore diver Emma Friesen became the second diver in school history to win an NCAA Championship.

Friesen won the 1-meter springboard final today at the NCAA Championships on the campus of Ohio State in Columbus, Ohio.

Friesen set a new school record with her six dives, recording a score of 336.20, winning by less than five points. Friesen led after the preliminaries earlier in the day.

"I figured she had one good dive coming," UH diving coach Mike Brown said on the UH Web site.

After the first five dives, Friesen was sitting in first place, narrowly by two points, with one remaining dive. Friesen nailed a reverse 1 1/2 with 1 1/2 twists for the highest score of the day, 61.10 and the national championship.

Friesen, a sophomore from North Vancouver, British Columbia, becomes the second diver to win a national championship at UH. Former diver QiongJie Huang won the 1-meter championship in 2005.
