Maui L&P to trade on Big Board

Maui Land & Pineapple Co. said the trading of its stock will move from the American Stock Exchange to the bigger New York Stock Exchange next month in a move expected to enhance share trading in the Kahului-based company.

The move is scheduled for April 2, and shares will continue to trade under the ticker symbol MLP.

To celebrate being listed on the Big Board, company officials are expected to ring the closing bell on the exchange floor sometime during the week of June 8 to coincide with Hawai'i's Kamehameha Day holiday on June 11.

Company spokeswoman Teri Freitas Gorman said the NYSE invited the Maui firm to join the nearly 4,000 firms listed on the exchange.

Maui Land & Pine, a business dating to 1909, has been publicly owned since 1969 when shares of its stock were listed on the AMEX. The company has a market capitalization of about $245 million and 8 million shares outstanding.
