Statewide rugby tournament continues at Kapiolani Park

The 4th Annual Adult Friends for Youth Aloha Youth 7's Rugby Tournament continues at Kapi'olani Park today and tomorrow.

The 14-minute games begin at 9 a.m. today and end at 5 p.m. Tomorrow, the games start at 9 a.m., with an awards ceremony and celebration to follow at 3 p.m.

Also known as "7s," 7-a-side rugby is played in more than 90 countries worldwide. Adult Friends for Youth launched the youth 7's rugby tournament four years ago.

In the past two tournaments, teams from Canada, New Zealand and Pennsylvania joined local teams from O'ahu, Maui and the Big Island.

This year, 16 teams from Hilo, Maui, Waipahu, Kahuku, La'ie, Kalihi, Kaimuki/Radford and Honolulu are competing.
