The state has released $67,338 to help cover operational costs for the Kapahulu Center.

The center offers a variety of programs for seniors, including health workshops and financial planning.

"We know how important staying active is to the emotional and physical well-being of our kupuna," said Gov. Linda Lingle, in a news release. "Kapahulu Center is a place where senior citizens can go to meet other people and engage in programs that promote living life to the fullest."

The center is located on Campbell Avenue, and has been serving residents for more than 25 years.

It was originally administered by the University of Hawai'i and then the Mo'ili'ili Community Center before becoming an independent nonprofit in July 1996. More than 400 seniors use the center annually.
