A pair of sharp-shooting guards helped University High to an undefeated (9-0) regular season and the Interscholastic League of Honolulu Division II boys basketball championship.

One of them, 5-foot-11 senior Dylan Gomez, was named ILH DII Player of the Year after a recent vote of league coaches.

Gomez scored 21 points in a victory over Word of Life and 19 in a win over Lanakila Baptist.

The other, 5-10 junior Noah Chong-Viernes, earned All-Star first team honors.

He had 16 points in a victory over Hawai'i Baptist in a midseason meeting of unbeatens.

Gomez and Chong-Viernes are joined on the ILH DII All-Star first team by Hawai'i Baptist' Dwayne Kato and Kyle Barretta, Academy of the Pacific's Bradley Foster and Word of Life's Aaron Tipoti.

Kato is a 5-10 senior guard, Barretta a 6-5 junior center, Foster a 6-2 junior post and Tipoti a 6-3 senior center.

Foster had three of the season's biggest scoring outbursts, posting 38 against Lutheran, 37 vs. ASSETS and 26 against Le Jardin.

University's Walter Quitan was named Coach of the Year for the second straight season.
