Underage drinking topic of April 3 public meeting

A nationwide campaign to stem underage drinking includes a town hall meeting on the subject from 6 to 8 p.m. April 3 at Windward Community College, Hale 'Akoakoa.

About 1 in 20 eighth-graders nationwide, or 5.5 percent, reported being drunk at least once in the past month. Nearly 1 out of every 5 10th-graders, or 18.1 percent, and 3 out of every 10 youths in 12th-grade, or 28.7 percent, report the same thing.

The meeting will include exploring the problem and possible solutions.

Underage Drinking Prevention: Town Hall Meeting is sponsored by Community Works in 96744, a coalition of youth, nonprofit organizations, churches, businesses, schools, the city Department of Parks and Recreation, and concerned citizens.
