The Pentagon has announced a new No. 2 general at O'ahu's Fort Shafter Army base.

Brig. Gen.Francis J. Wiercinski, who is currently deputy commanding general of U.S. Army Pacific, based at Fort Shafter, is being promoted to commanding general, U.S. Army Japan.

He is being replaced at Fort Shafter by Brig. Gen.John E. Seward, who is currently deputy commanding general for operations, U.S. Army Space and Missile Defense Command/U.S. Army Forces Strategic Command at Peterson Air Force Base, Colo.
