3 injured in Waianae crash

Police investigate an accident involving a motorcycle and two pedestrians at the corner of Farrington Highway and Maili'ili Road below the Waianae Comprehensive Health Center. HPD Traffic Division Lt. Darren Izumo said a witness said two women had just gotten off a town-bound bus and were crossing Farrington Highway in a crosswalk at Maili'ili Road when they were struck by a male motorcyclist traveling toward Waianae.

Honolulu police are investigating a severe traffic accident at the intersection of Farrington Highway and Mailiilii Road in Waianae that sent three people to the hospital.

According to initial police reports, a male motorcycle rider struck two female pedestrians at 7:36 a.m..

All three people were taken to The Queen's Medical Center, police said.

The younger of two injured women, who is about 23 years old, was thrown about 15 feet upon impact, said Bryan Cheplic, spokesman for the city's Emergency Medical Services department.

She was taken to Queen's in critical condition, Cheplic said.

The other woman, who is believed to be about 67, was taken to Queen's in serious condition, but her condition deteriorated to critical at the hospital, Cheplic said.

The motorcycle rider, described as in his mid- to late 20s, was taken to Queen's in serious condition, Cheplic said.

Both west-bound lanes of Farrington Highway were shut down while police investigated.
