W. Somerset Maugham's "The Constant Wife" is the story of basic human needs colliding with social interventions. This 1925 comedy follows Constance Middleton as she faces an imbalance of power in her marriage when she learns of her husband's indiscretion with her best friend. Maugham keeps the audience laughing while asking us to consider definitions of marriage and the relationship between love and money. The cast includes, above, from left, Becky Maltby, Virginia Jones, Bree Bumatai, Sylvia Hormann-Alper and Julianne Bernath.

Kander and Ebb's "Cabaret" musical takes the spotlight as a Castle Performing Arts Center production. It's the story of boarding-house owner Fraulein Schneider and cabaret singer Sally Bowles and their political and romantic complications as the Nazis come to power in Germany. Because of some mature material, this show is not for young children. Karen Meyer directs.

Honolulu Theatre for Youth's final show for the 2007-08 season is the children's classic "Ferdinand the Bull," by Munro Leaf and Robert Lawson, which takes to the stage in an adapted award-winning, flamenco-flavored musical. The story, if you don't already know, takes place in Madrid, where Ferdinand is a bull who loves flowers and Duquito Danilo dreams of being a dancer. Their destinies are intertwined when Danilo's father tries to turn his son into a bullfighter. This show, suited for ages 4 and older, is filled with dramatic dancing, glorious costumes and is a playful introduction to the Spanish language. It's Ong King Arts Center's second anniversary, and it's ready to celebrate at the next First Friday festivities, featuring 15 visual artists of the past year, excerpts from past theater productions, music from Quadraphonix with Taimane Gardner and belly dancer Zoe Jakes. They'll also be releasing for sale a compilation CD of original music recorded live at Ong King, and a conceptual art book with First Friday art and original poetry.

"Menopause: The Musical" reworks tunes from the 1960s and '70s into a salute to women who have entered that once-mysterious, now much-discussed stage in life. The story: Four women meet in a department store, a black lace bra their only thing in common; from then on topics such as hot flashes, memory loss, mood swings, night sweats and eating binges are fair — and hilarious — game. The opening-night gala is a benefit for the Women's Cancer Center at Kapi'olani Medical Center.

A newly reworked twist on Carlo Goldoni's "The Servant of Two Masters" comes to the University of Hawai'i-Manoa's Kennedy Theatre mainstage. The 1753 Italian comedy tells of a servant named Truffaldino (Jordan Savusa, above) who mistakenly gets employed by more than one master and spends all his time trying not to get caught. Then there's a fiancee returned from the dead, girls dressed as guys, guys dressed as girls, a play within a play, commedia dell 'arte and guest improvisers.

"Go For the Gold" is the (Olympics) theme of the 17th annual 'Iolani School Fair, featuring entertainment, food booths, games, cooking demonstrations, an art sale, silent auction and even movies on a big screen on the football field — "Hairspray" at 7:15 p.m. April 18, "Transformers" at 7:15 p.m. April 19. New this year: Eco-Square, where attendees can learn about green, environmentally friendly living.

CONCERT: APRIL 21

Long-lost traditions in dance and music are revived in a showcase titled "Chinese Spectacular," featuring colorful costumes and sets, original choreography and more than 100 performers. The show explores legends from 5,000 years of Chinese history.

FESTIVAL: APRIL 19

The Mayor's Office of Culture and the Arts presents the first-ever Art on the Block, in celebration of the 40th anniversary of the City's Commission on Culture and the Arts. Headlining this all-day event are vocalists Kristian Lei, left, and Jasmine Trias, below left, other entertainment includes taiko drumming, hula, Hawaiian chanting and a Chinese dragon dance. The event will also feature cultural exhibits, local artists, food, demonstrations and more, giving residents and visitors the chance to experience the mix of cultures of the Islands.

EXPO: APRIL 25-27

The 33rd annual Spring New Products Show, left, hits the Blaisdell Exhibition Hall with more locally made products and businesses as well as Taste of the Pacific, with food from some of Hawai'i's favorite restaurants and caterers. There will be a meet-and-greet with new University of Hawai'i football coach Greg McMackin and performances by the new KRUSH, the cast of the Stars In Concert and Afatia, 2007 Na Hoku Hanohano Award winner. And there's a chance to win a $100,000 extreme home interior makeover and other prizes and giveaways.
