State plans weekend roadwork on Oahu

The state Department of Transportation is advising O'ahu motorists of the following lane closures for the week of March 29 to April 4:

H-1 Freeway

  • Three rightmost lanes of the H-1 Freeway Airport Viaduct will be closed in the west-bound direction from the Airport on-ramp to the Kamehameha Highway/Aloha Stadium/Arizona Memorial off-ramp (Exit 15A) on Sunday from 6 a.m. to 10 p.m., for concrete pavement repair work. All on-and-off-ramps will remain open during this time.

    To avoid delays, west-bound motorists are advised to use alternate routes including the H-201 Moanalua Freeway or Nimitz Highway underneath the H-1 Airport Viaduct.

  • West-bound H-1 Freeway on-ramp from 11th Avenue will be closed on Sunday from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m., for retexturing of the concrete ramp surface. Westbound motorists are advised to use the next available H-1 on-ramp from 5th Avenue.

  • Three-lane closures in the west-bound direction over the Waimalu Viaduct, between Kaonohi Street and Ka'ahumanu Street, for bridge expansion joint repairs at the following locations and times:

    - Three leftmost lanes will be closed from 9 p.m. on Sunday night through 4 a.m. on Monday morning.

    - Three rightmost lanes will be closed from 9 p.m. on Monday night through 4 a.m. on Tuesday morning.

  • Single lane closures in the east-bound direction between the Makakilo and Kunia Interchanges on Monday through Friday from 8:30 a.m. to 3 p.m., daily, for concrete pouring.

  • Lane closures in the west-bound direction from the vicinity of the Waikele/Waipahu off-ramp (Exit 7) to the Military Access Road overpass from 10 p.m. to 4:30 a.m., nightly, at the following locations and dates:

    - Two leftmost lanes will be closed on Sunday night through Tuesday morning nightly.

    - Two rightmost lanes will be closed on Tuesday night through Friday morning, nightly. During these hours, the west-bound H-1 on-ramp from Paiwa Street will also be closed. West-bound motorists are advised to use the next available H-1 on-ramp at Kunia Road and surface streets such as Farrington Highway or Waipahu Street as alternate routes.

  • West-bound Likelike Highway off-ramp (Exit 20A) will be closed from 9 p.m. on Wednesday night to 4 a.m. on Thursday morning for guardrail and crash barrier repairs. During this time, the rightmost lane on the H-1 Freeway, adjacent to the off-ramp lane, will also be closed. West-bound motorists are advised to use the Houghtailing Street off-ramp (Exit 20B) as an alternate route.

    H-2 Freeway

  • Right lane of the south-bound on-ramp from Meheula Parkway will be closed on Monday through Friday from 8:30 a.m. to 3 p.m., daily, for pavement repairs and lane striping.

    H-201 Moanalua Freeway

  • Two-lane closures in the west-bound direction from Kalihi to 'Aiea on Monday night through Friday morning from 9 p.m. to 4:30 a.m., nightly, for overhead sign repairs and maintenance.

    Farrington Highway

  • Single-lane closures in both directions on Monday through Friday from 8:30 a.m. to 3 p.m., daily, at the following locations:

    - From Nanakuli to Makaha between Haleakala Avenue and Lawaia Street for various contractor permit projects including electrical pole replacements and installations of water mains, communications lines and manholes.

    - Near the Hawaiian Electric Co. Kahe Power Plant for guardrail repairs.

    - In Waialua, from Ka'ena Point to Kaukonahua Road, for lane striping and marker installations.

    Kahekili Highway

  • Left-lane closures between Kulukeoe Street and Ha'iku Road in both directions on Monday through Friday from 8:30 a.m. to 3 p.m., daily, for the removal of existing drainage systems and water line adjustments.

    Kalaniana'ole Highway

  • Right-lane closure in the Kailua-bound direction between Castle Junction and Kapa'a Quarry Road on Monday through Friday from 6 a.m. to 2:30 p.m., daily, for erosion control work.

    Work and lane closures are scheduled at this site on weekdays through May 2008. Project contractor Prometheus Construction will be anchoring mesh safety netting to the adjacent hillside to stabilize the slope.

    Kamehameha Highway

  • Single-lane closures in the east-bound direction from Makalapa Road to Valkenburgh Street on Monday through Friday from 8:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m., daily, for lane striping and lane marker installations.

  • South-bound traffic will be contraflowed using the north-bound lanes between Lehua Road and Waikalani Drive on Monday through Friday from 8:30 a.m. through 3 p.m., daily.

    Twenty four-hour lane closures will also be in effect, seven-days-a-week at the following locations:

  • Left- and right-lane closures in the south-bound direction between Lehua Road and Waihau Street.

  • Left- and right-lane closures in the north-bound direction between Lehua Road and Santos Dumont Avenue.

    Portable concrete barriers will be closing these lane segments for shoulder widening and curb construction.

    Likelike Highway

  • Right lane closure in the Honolulu-bound direction between Valley View Drive and School Street on Monday through Friday from 8:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m., daily, for roadside tree-trimming.

    Ala Moana Boulevard

  • Two-lane closure in the east-bound direction between Kamake'e Street and Pi'ikoi Street from 9 p.m. on Friday night through 5 a.m. on Monday morning for concrete sidewalk and gutter construction.

    During this period, the rightmost lane will be closed on a 24-hour basis to allow the concrete to properly cure before use.

  • Multiple lane closures in both directions from Fort Street to Pi'ikoi Street on Sunday night through Friday morning from 8 p.m. to 5 a.m., nightly, for the installation of vehicle detectors.

  • Two lanes will be closed in both directions during daylight hours on Wednesday and Thursday from 8:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. for the removal of existing traffic signal poles and the activation of a new traffic signal system.

  • Multiple lane closures in both directions between Holomoana Street and Kalakaua Avenue, limited to distances of one to two city blocks at a time, beginning on Monday at the following times:

    - Single-lane closure in each direction on Monday through Friday from 8:30 a.m. to 3 p.m., daily.

    - Two-lane closure in each direction on Monday night through Friday morning from 7:30 p.m. to 5 a.m., nightly.

    This improvements project will include the reconstruction and resurfacing of pavement areas, the addition of a fourth eastbound lane from Hobron Lane to Kalia Road, the lengthening of left-turn stacking lanes onto Hobron Lane and Kalia Road, center median landscaping enhancements designed in consultation with the Outdoor Circle, replacement of highway lighting with decorative lighting similar to Kalakaua Avenue, and the reconstruction of portions of pedestrian sidewalks and driveways.

    These road improvements will be paid for by the Hilton Hotels Corporation as part of a larger development surrounding the construction of The Grand Waikikian Tower, adjacent to the Hilton Hawaiian Village Beach Resort & Spa. Hilton has also established a construction information hotline at 948-7600 and an informational website at www.villagerejuvenation.com. Project completion is anticipated in December 2008.

    Fort Weaver Road

    • Single lane closures in both directions between Aawa Drive and Laulaunui Street on Monday through Friday at the following locations and times:

    - Intermittent single lane closures in the southbound direction between Laulaunui Street and Aawa Drive from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. for trenching work for the installation of electrical conduits.

    - Intermittent right lane closure in the northbound direction from Aawa Drive to the Honouliuli Stream Bridge from 9 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. for drainage system construction.

    Puuloa Road

    • Various lane closures on Puuloa Road between Kamehameha Highway and Salt Lake Boulevard on Monday through Friday from 8:30 a.m. to 3 p.m., daily, at the following locations:

    - Shoulder lanes in both directions closed. Roadside parking will not be permitted.

    - Modified traffic pattern is in effect on Mokumoa Street between Puuloa Road and Mapunapuna Street for drainage work. No large vehicles are allowed through this area. One lane of travel in each direction is available for cars.

    Houghtailing Street

    • Rightmost lane will be closed in the northbound direction from Olomea Street to Halona Street on Monday through Friday from 8:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m., daily, for roadside and overpass maintenance.
