BIENNALE OF SYDNEY

The annual Biennale of Sydney exhibits contemporary art from Australia and around the world, and since 1973 has grown into one of the largest and most exciting visual-arts events. The 16th Biennale of Sydney this summer (Sydney's winter) will be at venues and sites throughout the city, including Sydney's central Art Gallery of New South Wales and the Museum of Contemporary Art.

"Revolutions — Forms That Turn," will incorporate themes of change, revolt, rotation and insubordination. Artists display work in video, sculpture, sound, installation, performance, painting, photography and video. If you can't make it to Australia, you can preview some of the works on the Biennale of Sydney Online Venue, at www.biennaleofsydney.com.au.

CHRISTMAS MARKETS

In Portland, Ore., Gerhard Meng of Gerhard's Odysseys is preparing for the annual trips he plans and hosts to Europe at holiday time, with three excursions Nov. 28-Dec. 6, Dec. 6-14 or Dec. 12-21. These include the Christkindles Markets, holiday celebrations and arts and crafts sales held annually in various cities, dating back hundreds of years, including Frankfurt, Meinengen, Coburg, Annaberg and Dresden. Meng, a Portland-based tour guide, has visited these places dozens of times. "We'll forget the hurried, worried world," he promises. 503-223-5901; www.christmastrips.com.
