GOING VEGAS
Show ticket prices stabilizing

By Anthony Curtis

The Las Vegas Advisor's annual comparison of show prices in Las Vegas indicates that the average cost of a production-show ticket (touring headliners not considered) is now $70.21. That's a big number, but only 76 cents more than last year's average, providing further evidence that prices in general in Las Vegas are stabilizing. The price of an A-list show, where the average does not include lower-priced afternoon shows and comedy clubs, is $75.44, which is $1.25 more than last year. The most expensive show ticket in town is $276.76, the top tier for Bette Midler at Caesars Palace. The least expensive is $12.95 for Viva Las Vegas at the Plaza.

HUNDRED DOLLAR CLUB: There are now 21 shows with a top ticket price of $100 or more (up from 19 last year): "Amazing Johnathan," Barry Manilow, Bette Midler, Blue Man Group, Cher (opening in May), Danny Gans, "Jersey Boys," "Jubilee," "KA," "Le Reve," "Love," "Mamma Mia!," "Mystere," "O," "Phantom," "Spamalot," "Stomp Out Loud," Toni Braxton, "Tony 'n Tina's Wedding," Wayne Brady and "Zumanity."

BARGAIN TIX: On the other side of the coin, with 87 ticketed shows in town, bargains are still available and discount opportunities are plentiful. One avenue is to use the discount-ticket outlets on the Strip. A recent audit of the reseller Tix4Tonight turned up 53 shows with discounts (mostly 50 percent). You must buy these tickets in person at one of the outlets on the same day that you see the show, and there's typically a $4 to $5 service charge. You should also scan the freebie magazines for offers ranging from $5 off to full 2-for-1s.

SUPER SUSHI: A new all-you-can-eat sushi deal is offered at the original Hamada, a non-casino restaurant on Flamingo Avenue just east of Paradise Road. From 11 p.m. to 3 a.m. seven days a week, get unlimited sushi for just $19.50, plus you can order chicken teriyaki, short ribs, and tempura.

Q. A show is listed with the title Brett Daniels Magic Show: WOHSCIGAM. What does that mean?

A. Try reading it backwards.
